#Magic Moments

One of our teachers reminded us of the good old Jillian Jiggs collection from when we were kids, so we thought we would fill your weekend with Jillian Jiggs and all of her pigs!!!!

Materials: YouTube, old tights or long socks (you know, the ones with holes that are too small for your ever-growing child, or the lonely sock in your drawer), a needle and thread/embroidery floss, scissors, markers, buttons, Felt, Fiber Fill (or the remainder of the old tights or any other fill), and yarn and various fabric for clothing (optional).

Main Learning Outcomes: Developing fine motor skills, creativity and early literacy skills.

(1) First, cuddle up with your child to read the story, “The Wonderful Pigs of Jillian Jiggs” by Phoebe Gilman. If you don’t have the book at home, you can listen to it by following this link:

(2) At the end of the story, there are instructions to make your own pigs, just like Jillian. Follow this link for step by step instructions on how to try your own:

If you don’t have the exact materials, feel free to substitute with what you do have.

Tips: Now we realize that this activity will be tough for toddlers to do, but include them in the process by letting them pick out the button, fabric and with the overall design. They will be very excited to have their own pig to cuddle after.

If you liked this story, check out the first book in the collection, “Jillian Jiggs”, by Phoebe Gilman. Here is a link:
