Magic Moments - DIY Play D'oh

Time to get creative with your very own DIY Play D’oh!

Materials: 2 cups plain flour, 2 tablespoons oil, ½ cup salt, 2 cups boiling water, food colouring

Main Learning Outcomes: Developing fine motor skills, creativity and early literacy skills

1. Grab the book Play With Clay by Jenny Pinkerton - or listen along on Youtube. Follow the steps first to make your moulding dough, and then play while you read.

2. Time to make the play d'oh! Mix together your flour, salt and oil in a big bowl

Add the boiling water a little at a time, mixing until you get a sticky dough. You may not need it all!

Leave your dough to cool

Knead your dough on a floured surface.

Split your dough into as many balls as you need for your different colours

Add a few drops of food colouring to each ball and knead until it’s a consistent colour.

It’s play time! Get creative and see what you can make. Now you can play with the dough while you read today’s story.

Mix together your food colouring to make new colours. And if you want to keep your models, just bake in the oven at 250 degrees for an hour to harden.
