#Working [Mom/Dad] Moment- Fri April 10th

Easter isn’t complete without eggs and an egg hunt, so with our last blog day before Easter, we have both for you…

Materials: YouTube, hard boiled eggs, food colouring, vinegar, newspaper or plastic, small bowls, spoon.

Main Learning Outcomes: Developing fine motor skills, creativity, science concepts and early literacy.

Steps:

(1) First, sit together with your kiddo to ready the story, “The Best Easter Egg Hunt Ever”, by Dawn Casey. If you don’t have the book at home, you can listen to it by following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1kRZB0Tc_k

(2) To start, cover a table with layers of old newspaper to protect your surface and soak up any spills. Mix 7-8 drops of food coloring into 1 cup of hot water. Stir in 1/4 cup vinegar. (For more intense colors, use small amounts of professional-quality food coloring gels or pastes.) Do this in a separate bowl for each colour you want to make. Using a spoon, drop an egg into the bowl and let it soak for 5+ minutes. Take it out using the spoon, letting it drip, and then lay it on the newspaper, drying rack or tray to dry. If you're doing multi-colored eggs, let them dry thoroughly between coats of dye. For more decorative eggs, wrap eggs with twine or rubber bands before dying to create a striped effect, or create patterns with small bits of tape or stickers and remove after dying and drying.

Tips: This is a great activity to do alongside your child. Even toddlers can be assisted to colour the water, place the eggs and stick tape or stickers on the eggs before dying to make cool designs.

Happy Easter Egg Hunting!
