#Working [Mom/Dad] Moment- Thurs April 9th

More Easter egg fun to decorate your house with…

Materials: YouTube, string (or yarn and embroidery thread), scissors, white glue and a balloon.

Main Learning Outcomes: Developing fine motor skills and early literacy.

Steps:

(1) First, we will begin by sitting together for a beautifully illustrated story for Easter, “The Easter Egg”, by Jan Brett. If you don’t have the book at home, you can listen to it by following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZKMTJbjjWDY

(2) Now to make the eggs, we need to start off by blowing up a small balloon. Then we need to mix about ½ cup of white glue with ½ cup of water in an old container. With a long piece if yarn (about 2 feet), place it in the glue mixture to soak it for only a few seconds. Then pull it out and wrap it around the balloon in different directions. Then repeat with a second piece of yarn, and so on, until your balloon is as covered as you’d like it to be. Hang to dry. Here is link for a demonstration for this activity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfiqZr232dQ

Tips:

This activity can be done with all ages, though toddlers will require a little more assistance with it. Hold the balloon and encourage them to place the yarn on it. It also may be helpful to use a much smaller balloon and smaller pieces of yarn. Everyone can try out multiple colours on each balloon. If you don’t have coloured string, try colouring it with markers before or after.
