#Working [Mom/Dad] Moment- Tues April 7th

Yesterday we heard the story of the 3 Little Pigs, but did you ever hear the Wolf’s side of the story? Well, today we are going to do just that!

Materials: YouTube, toothpicks, straws, skewers, popsicle sticks and/or dry spaghetti noodles, and playdough or mini marshmallows.

Main Learning Outcomes: Developing fine motor skills, creativity, hand-eye co-ordination, visual and spatial awareness, problem solving and early literacy.

Steps:

(1) First, we will read, “The True Story of the Three Little Pigs” by Jon Scieszka together. If you don’t have the book at home, you can listen to it read by the author himself, by following this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Q01X8JU3GU

(2) Now we are going to try a little STEM challenge! We are going to try to build a house (or building of your choice) with things around the house, to see if it can withstand the wolf! Using the materials listed above, encourage your child to build a structure. It can be as big or as small as they want. When they are done, see if they can blow it over!

Tips:

Toddlers will need supervision during this activity, and it may be more of a sensory and fine motor process than actually building a structure. Either way, children of all ages will engage with this activity. Older children are encouraged to see how creative they can be!!

We’d love to see those structures! Happy building!
